about us
My name is Clare Plaister and I’m the founder of Language Travel Tours. I started Language Tours Travel back in 2015 because I wanted to give English language learners and students access to the real Scotland.
OUR story
Small Beginnings
In the beginning, however, it wasn’t easy. Although I had worked for many years in my mother’s language travel business in England and knew many clients and providers, most of them were simply not prepared to take a chance on NE Scotland saying it was too far north.
Until one client visited the area saying they were looking for a different destination with access to the real Scotland, its beauty and the warmth and charm of its people. Language Travel Tours was born.
We believe that language learning and educational tours and programmes can impact you in a positive way connecting you with local host families and teachers and developing tolerance and an open mind.
Operating with excellence and integrity…then and now
We started recruiting local host families who really care and take an interest in you, developing programmes that give you access to open space for hiking and introducing you to a rich and varied Scottish cultural heritage.
Language tuition was provided exclusively by fully qualified native English teachers – Trinity CertTESOL or CELTA (Cambridge) level and/or DELTA (Cambridge Diploma) or Trinity DipTESOL. Each student’s needs and expectations were met.
A unique and unforgettable experience
Once the students started coming…the floodgates opened.
We are delighted that many of our repeat students are like old friends. It makes it a fun experience for all.
our mission
In short, we are committed to developing our students so that they can live and work with confidence in an increasingly global world.

building back up
Currently…we are open and building back
The pandemic has hit pause on the impact and progression of the business. We are open but at a reduced capacity. However, we have used the break to develop opportunities for online learning including
Online live events and workshops for overseas schools
Online business English
General English online
We are so excited about this new adventure in online learning that provides you with the opportunity to learn from the comfort of your own home and at a time that suits you. We are also developing a second centre in Montrose which will operate alongside our current centre in Stonehaven so we can receive more school groups once travel is fully open again. We are also recruiting more homestay teachers so that we can welcome more adults and independent language learners to the area.
So, we can’t wait to see you again!
A Unique And Unforgettable Experience
Students from EU including France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Canary Islands and beyond: Japan, China, Russia, Czech Republic come to enjoy the real Scotland…The Cairngorms, Highlands, Royal Deeside and Loch Ness all whilst receiving the best possible language learning experience.

personally...
On a personal level, my husband and I try to keep up with the fast pace of family life and the ever-increasing demands of our childrens’ activities. There’s never a dull moment with Niamh and George.
A language-lover myself with a (BA (Hons) degree in French and German from Exeter University, I try to keep my languages up-to-date by watching French news (I love France-Info) and speaking very wobbly German with a friend over coffee.
And lastly, I am hoping to use my DIP TESOL qualification to create online videos and course content for our students who currently can’t travel but still want to learn English. So, I’d best get on with it…
